In a wonderful conclusion to the festival Patrick Bergin gives a reading on Lough Erne.  In the stillness of morning out on the lough the flat-bottomed ferry boat anchors amongst the reeds and the engine is turned off for the reading.  As it gently rocks it evokes the famous romantic dream sequence from one of Beckett’s major plays, Krapp’s Last Tape. Amongst the various places that Beckett lived in his lifetime, Enniskillen was the only one to offer the combination of water and reeds, so Lough Erne is a very fitting and resonant setting to listen to this story of young love.

Patrick Bergin is best known internationally for playing the menacing husband of Julia Roberts in the thriller Sleeping With the Enemy and also for his role as Irish terrorist Kevin O’Donnell in the film adaption of Patriot Games.  He appeared as Robin Hood opposite Uma Thurman in a 1991 TV movie and also played the role of psychotic IRA gunman in Jonny Was opposite Vinny Jones and Roger Daltry.  Recently Patrick could be seen in Ben Wheatley’s Free Fire alongside Cillian Murphy and Jack Reynor
