Franz Schubert was Samuel Beckett’s favourite composer whom he acknowledged in his own work (All That Fall, Nacht Und Traume). This is a unique chance to experience Schubert’s late song cycle as never before through the dark creation of one of Europe’s most innovative and critically acclaimed theatre directors. Romeo Castellucci’s company will come straight to Enniskillen after opening this year’s Aix En Provence Opera Festival in early July with Mozart’s Requiem. Another major headline artist appearance at the 2019 Happy Days Festival not to miss.
In antique myth, swans—those most beautiful of birds—sing their only song just before dying, and their last utterance is of unearthly beauty. Schubert’s publisher gave the title Swan Song (Schwanengesang)to his final collection of songs, published in 1829 just a few months after Schubert’s death on 19 November 1828.
We are grateful to the Arts Council of Northern Ireland for the loan of the Steinway Piano, for the purpose of this event.
