It may be high summer, but a performance of Schubert’s Winterreise – Beckett’s single favourite piece of music – has been at the heart of the Happy Days event since its inception in 2012.  Starting with Ian Bostridge in 2012 and followed by Florian Boesch, Benjamin Appel, Sir John Tomlinson, Christianne Stotijn, Roderick Williams, this will be the Festival’s ninth Winterreise to be sung by the wonderfully talented Fleur Barron.

‘Barron brought incredible poise and expressive weight – not to mention a thrillingly dark and rich-veined mezzo and a striking stage presence’ (Seen and Heard International)

In her 2021-22 season the Singaporean-British mezzo made house debuts in the title role of Carmen at Arizona Opera, Schwertleite in The Valkyrie at ENO and the title role in Hansel und Gretel in Oviedo.  She comes straight to Enniskillen from the Aix-en-Provence Festival having sung Ottavia in Monteverdi’s L’Incornazione de Poppea.
